Wine villa might sound like some other wine bar in Mumbai city, but
don’t go by the name since it is so much more than that. You must be quite
familiar with the Beer on tap themed restaurants/outlets but have you been to a
restaurant that holds a concept of Wine on tap?? Well, we happen to visit this
uber cool place Wine Villa, India’s first ever Wine on tap outlet with over 100
varieties of wine. Be it Rose, Dessert or Sparkling, they have it all.
Situated in very popular Juhu area of Mumbai city, Wine villa is brain
child of Tea Villa café co-owner Roopanshi Bhatt with signature dishes by Diana
Chan, winner of MasterChef Australia Season 9. So now you know, it is not only about
wine.. Food is wonderful too. Moving on to ambiance, when we walked in, on our
left were glass cabinets full of wines with taps and wine glasses at the bottom.
And what immediately caught out attention was this big cheeky quote on the wall
above which says “Wine me, dine me, sixty-nine me”. They have pinkish lighting
with quite a different kind of sealing work. On the extreme right side was a big
cocktail bar. The seating was mostly done in maroon and turquoise color. The place
overall provides a great instagramable experience.
One of their kind sommeliers Ankit helped us out with the wines in the
cabinet. He explained the difference between the varieties, and worked with our
preference. We tried a dessert wine from their collection.. They have this
interesting and logical taster concept at the wine on tap cabinet wherein if
you are not sure or want to try out a new wine, you can simply ask for a
tasting sample. So you can take the time to sip, swirl and smell the wine
before settling with a half/full glass.
Talking about the food, Wine villa has many unique dishes on their menu.
Some of them being Lotus Stem roll (INR 425), Spicy pebble chicken (INR 480),
Braised Lamb Shank (INR 625), Exotic veg mappas curry (INR 550) and many more.
Below is what we tried:
1. Soup of the day – Pumpkin soup (INR 395) – Although this one was very
simple & involves nothing fancy but we found it satisfactory on all terms.
Soup- an old yet good way to start any meal.

2. Black garlic chicken (INR 475) – This chicken cuisine is prepared by tossing chicken pieces in dark soya sauce, Sichuan Peppercorn and Roasted garlic. Szechuan peppercorn is a fragrant spice also known as Szechuan (Sichuan) pepper, flower pepper, flower peppercorn, hot pepper, prickly ash and Hua Jiao. Served with sautéed bell pepper and fried lotus stem, this one is good as starters.

3. Braised Lamb Shank (INR 625) – This dish took our heart away and
didn’t give it back !! It was scallion black rice served with Paya shorba, mint
and fried onions. It was satisfactorily fulfilling cuisine. A must try food
item at Wine villa. The lamb shanks were done properly and the black rice was
complimenting the shorba very nicely.

4. Vanilla cheesecake (INR 525) – With the twist of Nutella cremeux
(cream) & dust, this simple Vanilla cheesecake got its new flavor. Cheesecake was creamy in texture like it was supposed to be with crummed base. A
wonderful way to end a meal.
